ALASKA YELLOW CEDAR (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis)

Growing area
The west coast of North America and Canada.

General description
Very light (430 kg/m3) coniferous species with a high durability (Class I/II) Light yellowish in colour with straight grain and tight growth rings. Very easy to work with. Is not prone to splintering. Soft.

Main uses
All outside applications where durability is of importance, as cladding, decking, playgrounds and boats. Turns a beautiful silvery grey colour after ageing.

Remark
The North American Indians make their totem poles from this specie.
