NOGAL (Juglans australis)

Growing area
Argentina and Bolivia.

General description
Nogal – South American Walnut has a very uniform brown colour. Sometimes it has white spots, caused by drying. After exposure to light they turn darker to almost the same colour as the other wood. It can be favourably compared to North American Walnut with the benefit of a more uniform colour with little sapwood. Weight about 640 kg/m3. Nogal is mainly straight grained and mild in texture. Easy to work with.

Main uses
Furniture, carpentry and flooring.

Remark
Nogal is very difficult to dry. Deposits in the cells block the openings making it difficult for the water in the cells to be extracted.
