SWIETENIA MAHOGANY(Swietenia macrophylla)

Tropical Central and South America. Planted in the Far East and Africa.

General description
A beautiful and previously much sought after species. The colour darkens from rose to nice deep brown. Relatively light in weight (about 650 kg/m3) and yet durable. (Class II) Easy to work with all tools. The first areas where this species was cut, were Cuba and Honduras and the mahogany from these countries is still much sought after.

Main uses
Stairs, joinery, carpentry and boatbuilding.

Remark
Swietenia Mahogany is a protected species and can only be imported with special documents.
