TEAK (Tectona grandis)

Growing area
South East Asia. Planted in many countries with a tropical or sub-tropical climate in Africa, Central and South America.

General description
Very durable, relatively light in weight (about 680 kg/m3) and very easy to work. Colour goldbrown. Oily with a leather smell.

Main uses
Suitable for a wide range of applications but most importantly for boatbuilding ( hull planking and decking) together with garden furniture. Popular in veneer.

Remark
Available in a wide range of sizes, also as quartersawn and rift.
Its unique characteristics including high durability and stability make this timber one of the most highly prized and king of all species.
