YELLOW POPLAR (Liriodendron tulipifera)

East coast of the USA. Planted extensively around the world.
General description
The heartwood varies in colour from olive green to yellow or brown. The wide sapwood is white to yellow. The wood is straight- grained , fine textured, soft and light in weight weighing around 450 kg/m3. Dries well and is easy to work with due to the fine texture. Not very strong or durable.
Main uses
Suitable for interior use including stairs, furniture, carpentry, turnings, doors and moulds.
Accepts paint and stain well making it suitable for high quality finishes.

Commonly known as Tulipwood.
